On my tour, I become extremely impressed with the scope of athletic facilities on the Naval Academy Yard. Then I came across Rip Miller Field. This is from the Navy Sports website:
On October 13, 1995 the Academy's turf field was dedicated to the late Rip Miller, an integral part of Naval Academy athletics for 48 years. Now a FieldTurf surface, the Navy lacrosse and football teams use Rip Miller Field for various practices and scrimmages, while the sprint football team has used it for games.
Miller started at Navy as an assistant football coach, was the head football coach from 1931-1933 and served as an Assistant Director of Athletics from 1948 until his retirement in 1974. The field received a face lift in 1995 and again in '97. During the summer of 2011, the FieldTurf was extended to provide a larger surface and a new press box was installed.
